The complete ride along the South Downs Way (SDW) is a long one, some 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne. Hardened mountain bikers might do it in a day, but less fit riders might chose to divide the route into chunks using the stations at these places to join or leave the ride.
One logical point to break the ride is the Visitor Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Now, a cycle friendly route has been opened from Petersfield station to the QECP Visitor Centre. I cycled it today and its a functional route, using back roads out of the town, a shared use path beside the B2070, and, to finish, the carriageway of the old A3, which runs traffic-free beside its busy replacement multi-lane highway in the cutting below.
A map of the route is here, and pictures are below. The Visitor Centre has good facilities for a pit stop at the end/beginning of the ride along the SDW.
