A wonderful day's cycling. The route took us through the Forest of Bowland, which is one of those forests with no trees. To the contrary, this is a landscape of open fells, isolated farms and dry stone walls. The ride is literally up hill and down dale, but none of the gradients was too bad. Unlike so many we have followed so far, the roads were not closed in by high hedges, but were open to the moorland, so that we could enjoy the panoramic views which unfolded as we cycled along. This area must be one of England's best kept secrets.

The day was rounded off by a tea shop crawl around the attractive little town of Kirkby Lonsdale.
