Previous day
Next day
Weather: Cloudy and showery at first, clearing to sunny intervals, then heavy showers after Bonar Bridge; strong headwind; quite cold
Stats: 57.1 miles; ave speed moving: 10.8 mph
Counties: Highland
GPS track map: Link here
The day started cloudy as we crossed the Moray Firth (another for our collection of major bridges) and set off along the delightful road along the shore of the Beauly Firth. A shower proved a false alarm, and the rest of the morning brightened considerably. Coffee stop was at Dingwall, then we made our way overlooking the Cromarty Firth, then over increasingly remote roads to the Dornoch Firth (this was a day of four firths). The gradients were not too steep, making this a really enjoyable ride. A late lunch was taken in the Caley café at Bonar Bridge, at which point some heavy showers broke out. We made our way to Lairg via a quiet back road, calling at the Falls of Shin to see salmon leaping.
Even though I arrived in Lairg in one of those heavy showers, most of the day had been fine, and in comparison to our soaking of the previous day, we were well pleased. Anticipation mounts as we near our final goal: just two more days to go.
In the evening, Peter and Les check out my noisy rear wheel, and reckon it may be the bearings running dry. They pack it with grease, hopefully it will run smoother tomorrow.
