Hayling Island Ferry update: urgent deadline

I reported in a previous post on the situation with regard to the demise of the passenger ferry across Langstone Harbour mouth, joining Hayling Island to Portsmouth, and a vital link on National Cycle Route NCN2 along the south coast.

Whilst googling something else, I stumbled across an encouraging piece of news. Hayling Island residents have set up a community trust - the HAYLING FERRY TRUST - to help reinstate a sustainable ferry service. They are working closely with the operator who purchased the boat itself several months ago, and are hopeful that a service could be up and running later this summer (maybe as early as August).

The Trust is seeking financial pledges towards a trust fund to help support the ferry, via this crowd funding web site:

Individuals can either make a straight donation to become a Friend, buy a mug, or buy ticket vouchers, and there are also various business sponsorship options. There is a deadline of 10th August 2016 to reach their target of £15,000 (as I write, they are nearly at £12,000, including a £5,000 donation from Virgin).

So if, like me, you value this important and fun part of the National Cycle Network, please consider making a pledge!

STOP PRESS:  Relaunch scheduled for 5th August 2016.
