Chichester, Bosham Harbour and environs

Today, I cycled with a friend around Bosham Harbour, near Chichester. I have cycled this area often, for example via Dell Quay, and around the newly established Medmerry inundation, but it's always a rewarding area to revisit for a leisurely cycle ride.

For today's ride, we parked at Fishbourne Roman Palace car park (be aware the gates are locked at 5pm sharp.) Here is a map of  our route.

We cycled via country lanes to the attractive and historic (Canute vs the tide etc) waterside village of Bosham, where we had lunch in a cafe. It was high tide, and the road around Bosham Harbour was flooded, but we followed the adjacent footpath to emerge on the road to the Itchenor ferry. This we took to cross over to West Itchenor, where we cycled down to join the Salterns Way to Chichester Marina (where we stopped at the cafe for a cuppa). The Chichester Canal towpath then took us to Chichester, where we admired the Cathedral before returning to the car on the NCN2. It was a bright early autumn day, and, apart from a short stretch on busy Stockbridge Road in Chichester, it was all on quiet roads, bridleways and towpaths.
