I recently holidayed on Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands. It was mainly a walking holiday, but one day I made a day trip on the ferry across to the small island of La Graciosa off the northern tip on the main island and made a circuit on a hired bike.
The map of my ride is here.
On the ferry from Orzola to La Graciosa (passing the impressive Risca de Famara - Cliffs of Famara). The ferry was busy, there was some kind of carnival going on. |
I hired a bike in the port of Caleta del Sabo - only one gear combination working and the seat post kept slipping, but what do you expect for 10 euros per day. |
The track out of Caleta towards Montana Pedro Barba, an old volcanic cone (all the hills in Lanzarote are ex volcanoes) |
Towards Isla de Montana Clara (an island off the coast) |
Beach |
More beach |
Playa de las Conchas (apparently a nudist beach: too cold for me!) |
Playa del Ambar |
The weather brightened. There were some big rollers coming onto the beach: Africa to the right, America to the left. |
Approaching the hamlet of Pedro Barba |
Pedro Barba - quite an upmarket location |
Track on the return cicuit |
Circuit completed |
Returning to Caleta, cloud rolling off the Risca |
Return ferry |
Looking back to La Graciosa |
Thanks. I go cycling in Lanzarote for a week each year, and have several times gazed down on La Graciosa from the Mirador del Rio. I'm now inspired to visit next time.
