Deal-icious Dover Sandwich

Elsewhere in this blog, I describe a sequence of cycle rides circumnavigating the South East Coast of England. One of those rides is from Whitstable around to Dover. Today I revisited a section of one of these rides by riding North from Dover. Here is a map of our ride.

We essentially followed NCN1 (although we made a couple of mistakes, corrected in red on the map). We started from our car parked in North Military Road close to Dover Priory station. Our ride was somewhat leisurely, and we reached Sandwich, some 16 miles away, from where we returned by train to our start. We stopped at the NT White Cliffs cafe for coffee, the Zetland Arms beside the sea at Kingsdown for lunch, and Walmer Castle for cream tea. For once, bucking the bad weather elsewhere across the country, this corner of Kent had blue sky and a strong southerly tailwind to help us on our way.

The path up to the White Cliffs is strictly a footpath: technically it's no cycling, and it would be difficult to cycle up anyway.)

Some cycle path!
